Man burns niece’s house to ashes

An 87-year-old Bulawayo man is on the run after burning his niece’s house in Nkulumane suburb recently. Joshua Dube, who has been residing at the same house for 15 years set the house on fire and ran away.

Dube’s nephew Jabulani Sibanda confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I confirm that my uncle burnt the house, he set it on fire, luckily, we contacted the fire brigade to extinguish it before it had damaged all the rooms, though the damaged rooms were already in ashes on its arrival,” Sibanda said.

Sibanda said the matter was reported to the police. Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele and Bulawayo City Council acting chief fire officer Linos Phiri were not available to comment on the issue.

Dube is alleged to have been in and out of prison all his life for stealing cattle in his area of residence. He was then entrusted with this house to look after, leading to this fate. His family is engaging the public to help in locating him.
