Vampire Slayer star Camden Toy dies aged 68

Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Camden Toy tragically died at the age of 68 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. This week the death of the famous horror movie icon was revealed by his partner Bethany Henderson which came as a shock to many of the actor’s fans. She shared the devastating news on December 8 explaining that he was secretly battling the disease for two years. In a Facebook post, Bethany apologized for the sudden news as the actor requested that his diagnosis not be made public “for many reasons”.

In a message to his friends, family, and fans she wrote: “For many reasons we were very hopeful for, at least, a longer and more fruitful time on planet Earth. Even the more recent challenges felt more like a hiccup in progress,” and added: “Unfortunately, it looks like we’ve reached the end of the road with the doctor’s treatment. His condition has declined a lot in the last two months and tremendously in the last several days.”

She continued: “Unfortunately, this may be new and shocking news to many of his fans. We both apologize for this and please know that he has appreciated you all so much, as have I.”

Many remember Camden for his iconic villainous role of Turok-Han on the hit horror series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The villain known as Ubervamp by the Scooby Gang was an ancient powerful demon that terrorized the group of friends. His character was a feral and savage creature with sharp teeth that resembled more of a beast than a normal vampire. During his time on the show, he also starred as the iconic demonic Gentleman and the skin-eating demon Gnarl.

Outside of his memorable time on the show, Camden also acted in over 100 independent films and several television roles throughout his impressive career. Some of his other most famous TV roles included his appearances on The Prince of Lies, Goodnight Burbank, The Bay, and Into the Dark. As for his long list of movie appearances some of his most recognized roles include Average Joe, Uncanny Annie, Bedeviled, and Disciples, among many others.

When fans discovered the devastating news of his passing, they took to X, formerly Twitter, sharing heartfelt tributes to the talented actor. One wrote: “Just heard the devastating news that @Camden_Toy has passed away. My deepest condolences to his friends & family. He was such a lovely man & will be dearly missed.” And another wrote: “A sad day in the #BuffyTheVampireSlayer fandom. I just read that #CamdenToy passed away. Always supportive of the #BtVS fandom, we will miss him. Such a gracious person.”

One of his close friends James C. Leary also took to X sharing a loving tribute to the star. He wrote: “The world lost a delightfully maniacal, abundantly kind, and overwhelmingly generous soul last night. I had the pleasure and privilege to travel the world, tread the boards, and sail the seas with @Camden_Toy and I shall cherish every moment. Rest easy. #buffythevampireslayer.”
