Wiz Khalifa speaks out after being arrested for drugs in Romania

Wiz Khalifa responded after his recent arrest in Romania for illegal drug possession during a performance at the “Beach, Please!” festival in Costinesti. The 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was reportedly caught smoking cannabis on stage and found in possession of over 18 grams of the substance early Sunday morning, according to DIICOT, a Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors organization.

Following the incident, Khalifa took to social media to address the situation, acknowledging the misunderstanding and expressing his respect for Romania. “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote, noting that authorities were understanding and allowed him to continue his visit. Khalifa humorously added, “I’ll be back soon. But without the big ass joint next time.”

DIICOT issued a press release confirming the initiation of criminal proceedings against Khalifa for unlawful possession of drugs. In Romania, possession of what they classify as a “risk drug” such as cannabis can lead to significant legal consequences, including up to ten years in prison.

This isn’t Khalifa’s first brush with drug-related legal issues. In 2010, he was arrested and detained overnight on drug charges in North Carolina after a concert at East Carolina University.
