A stir has emerged in Zimbabwean social media circles following a sangoma’s claim that he played a pivotal role in helping socialite Hillary Makaya marry a wealthy man, often referred to as “mbinga” in local slang. The sangoma, Sekuru Mwale, has made headlines with allegations that Makaya failed to honor their financial agreement after he supposedly facilitated her marriage.
Sekuru Mwale took to Facebook to accuse Makaya of breaking their agreement, which reportedly included sharing a portion of her lobola money with him. Mwale claimed that after successfully arranging Makaya’s marriage to a wealthy individual, she reneged on their deal and cut off communication. He warned that he might resort to traditional methods to “punish” Makaya, and even shared alleged WhatsApp message screenshots to support his claims.
Mwale’s full statement read:
“Makadii vazukuru mativi mana ndakuuya kuti ndikuudzei pamusoro paHillary Makaya semashoko eyambiro. Kune vanokwanisa ndinoda musvitse shoko iri kwaari sezvo ini akandiblocker. Uyu Hillary Makaya ndini ndakamubatsira kuti awane wekufambidzana naye uyo akazomuroora nemari zhinji. Takabvumirana kuti ini ndaizomubatsira asi pamari yaizobviswa ndine mari yandaizowana. Ndakamubatsira sokubvumirna kwatakaita zvakitika ndinovimba mose munozviziva kuti akazoorwa nemari inosvika $40 000. Zvino dambudziko ravepo ini haachade kundipa mari yangu yatakawirirana uye pose pandaitaura naye haachabtike. Saka izvi ndauya kuti ndikuivisei kuti kana mukaona zvichaitika kwaari muzive chikonzero uye zvisazoita sokuti ndaita utsinye. Ndichakuratidzai pandaitaura naye pose. Kureva kwematare kuvapenyu.”
In response to these claims, Hillary Makaya took to Instagram to refute the allegations. During an Instagram Q&A session, Makaya humorously dismissed the idea that a sangoma could so easily secure a wealthy husband for her. She quipped, “I really wish life was that easy, mukadzi wese angadai ane mbinga yake 🥺 Dai vanhu vasirikukwangwaya kunze uko 🤣🤣,” suggesting that if finding a rich husband were as simple as Mwale claimed, all women would be wealthy.
Makaya further jested about the situation, advising others to visit Sekuru Mwale if they sought similar marital arrangements, saying, “Endaiwo kun’anga kwacho muroorwewo 😄😄😄.”
This exchange highlights the often whimsical nature of celebrity gossip and social media interactions, with Makaya’s light-hearted responses contrasting sharply with Mwale’s serious allegations.
