Brenda Fassie’s ex-lover reveals riches-to-rags journey

Sindisiwe Khambule, widely recognized for her role as Sindi Majola in popular South African productions such as *Zone 14*, Tsotsi, and Yizo Yizo, has recently found herself trending on social media. The spotlight shifted to Khambule following the emergence of a video in which she candidly shared her dramatic shift from wealth to hardship. Khambule, known for her high-profile relationship with the late music icon Brenda Fassie, revealed a deeply personal and troubling narrative. In the video, she recounts her past success, including owning a car, multiple apartments, and businesses, while earning a substantial income. Despite her financial success, Khambule expressed profound dissatisfaction and unhappiness.

“I asked God, I had everything from the age of 22. I had my car, apartments, businesses, everything, but I was not happy,” she said. “They killed my family because of my money. I was earning R52 000 in two weeks, and I said, God, please take it all because I want to be like everybody. God took it,” she added.

Khambule’s story is marked by a significant downturn in her fortunes. Once introduced to the media and showbiz industry by Fassie at a Kora Awards event in Sun City in the early 2000s, Khambule’s career had seemingly bright prospects. However, recent reports suggest that she has been struggling to secure acting roles, with her last known attempt being a project with Khanyi Mbau and Kelly Khumalo, which remains unreleased.

A source close to the actress indicated that Khambule’s career woes might be linked to high payment demands and difficulties in finding work. The source mentioned, “The last time she tried her luck on TV was when she acted alongside Khanyi Mbau and Kelly Khumalo in a project from Chicco Twala, which is yet to be released. All I know is that she was always demanding a lot of payment after acting even before their project could be released.”

Despite her struggles, Khambule has asserted that she does not require financial assistance. The actress, who was once the center of Mzansi’s attention due to her relationship with Fassie, was recently spotted looking disheveled on the streets of Yeoville. In the video, she expressed a sense of acceptance of her current situation, acknowledging the drastic change in her life circumstances. Khambule’s story is a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of fame and fortune, highlighting the often unseen challenges faced by public figures.
