Wesley Shoniwa, 28, appeared before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa charged with attempted murder following a heated altercation that reportedly stemmed from his mother’s alleged relationship with Ras Pompy. According to the court proceedings, Wesley admitted to being deeply disturbed by the relationship between his mother and the 34-year-old Zimdancehall artist. The perceived ridicule from his community further exacerbated his frustration. “We are here because my mother is sleeping with Ras Pompy,” Wesley told the court. “How can she sleep with someone of my age when she can easily find someone her age to sleep with?”
The situation escalated when Wesley’s uncle, who is also his mother’s brother, intervened in the matter. According to Wesley, his uncle took his mother’s side and questioned him about harassing her. This intervention, coupled with the public scorn he faced, led to Wesley’s violent outburst. “Everyone in the neighborhood has been laughing at me over this issue because her boyfriend is my friend and is way younger than my mother,” Wesley explained. “When my uncle asked me about it, taking her side, I was infuriated and stabbed him.”
The incident in question occurred on Monday when Wesley allegedly used a knife to inflict a shoulder wound on his uncle during a confrontation. The uncle had reportedly tried to address the altercation between Wesley and his mother, leading to the stabbing.
