A serious accident occurred on Monday at the 75km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another seriously injured. The incident involved a bus from Blue Circle, which collided with a stationary truck before veering off the road and crashing into a tree.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the details of the accident but withheld the names of the deceased pending notification of their next of kin. The victims included the bus driver, Owen Tendai Kuvheya (36), and Ilot Moyo (45), who was attending to his broken-down truck at the time of the collision.
According to Mangena, the bus was carrying 50 passengers traveling from Harare to Bulawayo. As it approached the 75km peg, it struck the stationary truck and lost control, first veering to the right, then to the left, before finally stopping after hitting a tree. Tragically, two passengers were ejected from the bus and died at the scene, while another passenger and Moyo sustained injuries and were transported to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for treatment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident as the community mourns the loss of life.
