Former Zanu PF Chegutu West lawmaker Dexter Nduna was remanded in custody yesterday after facing serious charges related to the illegal collection of vehicle parking fees. Nduna, who also serves as the chairperson of the ruling party’s resource and mobilization committee, appeared before Chegutu Magistrates Court, where he was represented by Unite Saizi of Saizi Law Chambers.
Magistrate Amanda Chamisa stated that Nduna posed a potential risk of interfering with State witnesses, leading to his further detention. “The State has a strong case against the accused person,” Chamisa noted during the proceedings, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Nduna is facing multiple fraud charges. According to prosecutor Tafadzwa Vhore, the allegations stem from Nduna’s misrepresentation to motorists that a company associated with him, Team Chapter, had taken over the responsibility of collecting vehicle parking fees. The prosecution contends that Nduna falsely claimed that his company was acting on behalf of the Chegutu Municipality, thereby misleading the public and unlawfully collecting fees.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting concerns about governance and transparency in local government operations. Nduna has been remanded until October 29, when further proceedings are expected to take place.
