Sean Diddy Combs set to face trial in May 2025

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to face a trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges on May 5, 2025. The 54-year-old rapper, who was arrested in New York last month, remains in custody after being denied bail. Judge Arun Subramanian established the trial date during a pretrial hearing on Thursday.

This marked Combs’ first court appearance since his arrest. His mother, Janice, and several of his children—Quincy, Justin, Christian, Chance, D’Lila, Jessie, and Love Sean—were present in the courthouse for support.

In a bid for his release, Combs’ lawyer, Alexander A.E. Shapiro, filed an appeal with the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The documents, obtained by PEOPLE, argued that Combs was not released pending trial despite offering conditions to mitigate any flight risk or danger. The filing contended that the court had rejected a sufficient bail package and violated obligations under the Bail Reform Act, emphasizing Combs’ presumption of innocence.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He was denied bail set at $50 million and is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. His initial bail denial came on September 17, followed by a second appeal that was also rejected.

During the second hearing, Judge L. Carter stated, “There is no condition or combination of conditions to ensure he will not obstruct justice or tamper with witnesses,” highlighting the seriousness of the allegations against the music mogul. As the trial date approaches, Combs’ legal team continues to fight for his release while preparing for the upcoming proceedings.
