BINDURA — Saymore Mhene, a 48-year-old businessman and owner of Bestdue Driving School in Bindura, has found himself at the centre of a sensational legal drama after he was allegedly lured into the bedroom of a married woman and assaulted. The case, now before the Bindura Magistrate Court, has captured local attention, with a video of the attack circulating on social media.
Mhene, who is also active in local political circles, reportedly initiated contact with Triphiner Gwafa, 43, commonly referred to as Mai Nga, with a message that read: “Hi, uripi? Unoita free rinhi tionane… une WhatsApp here?” What followed, according to court papers and interviews, escalated into an extraordinary series of events that ended with him being trapped and attacked inside the couple’s home.
Gwafa is married to Tondera Matukanzvimbo, 46, and the couple is now facing allegations of jointly assaulting Mhene. They are being represented by Pride Psychology Dzapasi of Takaindisa Law Chambers. Court documents detail that Mhene arrived at the couple’s home on a Wednesday, reportedly at Gwafa’s invitation. He left his car at a nearby service station and walked to the residence, unaware that he was walking into a premeditated trap.
Inside the home,Businessman Mhene reportedly removed his shoes and placed his phones on the pillow, telling Gwafa that he had come to fulfil a dream he had about her. In that dream, he claimed, he saw her praying and crying, and a voice told him she was “sex-starved” and not satisfied by her husband. Mhene allegedly told Gwafa that her marriage was over and encouraged her to move on.

According to Gwafa, who spoke to H-Metro following her court appearance, she was suspicious of Mhene’s intentions. “He asked me if my husband was satisfying me,” she said, recalling that the encounter occurred after her husband had taken two additional wives and the couple was already separated. She added that she had known Mhene for years, as their sons once shared a dormitory at Mazowe Boys High. During school visits, she said, Mhene would allegedly make advances.
Gwafa, a devout member of the apostolic sect, moved to Kadoma for four years before returning to Bindura in 2021. Upon her return, Mhene reportedly renewed his advances, prompting her to alert her brother-in-law and set a trap.
The court heard that as Businessman Mhene followed Gwafa into the bedroom, she began recording the encounter. At that moment, her husband Tondera and her brother-in-law reportedly entered the room. Phones were seized, jackets were grabbed, and physical attacks ensued. Gwafa is accused of striking Businessman Mhene repeatedly with a broomstick and slapping him multiple times, while the two men joined in the assault.
Businessman Mhene, speaking briefly to H-Metro, confirmed that he was attacked and sustained injuries. He declined to provide further details, citing ongoing police investigations. A medical report documenting his injuries is expected to be submitted as evidence in court.
The incident has sparked debate in Bindura, with locals expressing shock over the brazen nature of the assault and the involvement of a well-known businessman and politically connected figure. Social media reactions have amplified the story, particularly due to the circulation of video footage capturing parts of the attack.
While the legal proceedings continue, the case highlights broader concerns about personal relationships, consent, and the consequences of clandestine encounters. Legal analysts note that the court will need to carefully assess claims of premeditation, entrapment, and self-defence in determining culpability for the alleged assault.
The Bindura Magistrate Court will continue hearing the case, with both the accused and the victim expected to provide testimony. Observers say the trial is likely to draw significant attention given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the sensational details surrounding the alleged attack.
For now, the community remains captivated by the case, which underscores the complex interplay of personal relationships, societal norms, and the legal system. Authorities urge anyone involved in similar disputes to pursue lawful avenues rather than resorting to violent confrontation, highlighting the role of the police and judiciary in resolving personal conflicts.
