Tinashe Turamai Allegedly Murders Wife Over Suspected Affair

Harare police have arrested a man Turamai accused of fatally stabbing his wife following suspicions of an extramarital affair, in one of two violent incidents reported in the capital last week.

Tinashe Turamai , 27, of Malbereign, allegedly attacked his 21-year-old wife, Marita Nyamunda, on August 11, 2025. According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Turamai allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Nyamunda in the stomach and neck, resulting in her immediate death.

“The suspect allegedly accused his wife of being unfaithful and in a fit of rage attacked her with a knife,” Commissioner Nyathi said. He confirmed that Turamai was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody, pending investigations and possible criminal charges for murder.

The incident has shocked residents of Malbereign, a suburb in northern Harare, where both the victim and accused were reportedly well-known in the community. Neighbours described the couple as seemingly ordinary, though there were rumours of domestic disputes prior to the tragedy.

Community activists and social workers have called the case a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the lethal consequences that can arise from unresolved conflicts within households. “Domestic disputes can escalate quickly if there is no intervention. Authorities and communities must work together to prevent such tragedies,” said one local social worker who requested anonymity.

In a separate case highlighting rising violent crime in Harare, police in Kuwadzana arrested 42-year-old Bigboy Majenje on August 8, 2025, following the death of 58-year-old homeowner Amos Pearson. According to Commissioner Nyathi, Majenje allegedly broke into Pearson’s residence in Kuwadzana 5 with the intent to commit burglary. During the attempted break-in, Pearson confronted the intruder, resulting in a violent struggle that left the homeowner fatally injured.

Turamai Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife Over Suspected Infidelity; Separate Burglary-Linked Murder Also Reported

“Pearson was attacked by the suspect, who allegedly struck and caused fatal injuries during the altercation,” Commissioner Nyathi said. Majenje was taken into custody and charged with murder and burglary. Police investigations are ongoing to determine whether he acted alone or in connection with other individuals.

Both cases have reignited public concern over safety in Harare, particularly the threat posed by domestic disputes and opportunistic criminal activities such as home invasions. Residents have urged law enforcement to increase patrols, particularly in residential areas, and to educate communities on preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies.

Crime analysts note that domestic violence remains a significant challenge in Zimbabwe, with many cases going unreported until extreme outcomes, such as fatalities, occur. They argue that early intervention through counselling, mediation, and community policing can play a crucial role in reducing the risk of violent escalation in households.

Similarly, the burglary-linked homicide underscores the importance of home security and vigilance. Analysts suggest that crime prevention strategies, such as installing alarms, reinforcing doors and windows, and maintaining neighbourhood watch programs, can help mitigate the risk of violent encounters during break-ins.

For Turamai, the alleged stabbing of his wife represents a grave breach of the law and a tragic personal and communal loss. Police investigations are focusing on establishing motive, collecting forensic evidence, and interviewing witnesses to build a case that will be presented in court. Should he be convicted of murder, Turamai could face a lengthy custodial sentence under Zimbabwean criminal law.

Majenje’s case is similarly grave, with charges of murder and burglary carrying severe penalties if proven in a court of law. Police have appealed to the public to provide any information regarding his possible accomplices or related criminal activities to aid ongoing investigations.

Both incidents are reminders of the dual threats posed by domestic conflict and criminal opportunism, highlighting the need for vigilance, law enforcement responsiveness, and community engagement in promoting safety. Authorities have pledged to pursue both cases diligently, ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families.

As investigations continue, the affected communities remain in mourning, grappling with the sudden loss of life and the broader implications of crime and violence in their neighbourhoods. The cases also reinforce the importance of social awareness and early intervention mechanisms to prevent domestic and criminal violence from escalating into fatal outcomes.
