In a heartwarming display of compassion and service, Mother Zimbabwe, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa—affectionately known as Mother Zimbabwe—touched the hearts of thousands as she distributed food hampers to over 3,000 delegates attending the ZANU PF 22nd National People’s Conference in Mutare.
The gesture, carried out on Thursday on the sidelines of the event, drew widespread appreciation from delegates who hailed Mother Zimbabwe for her consistent acts of kindness and unwavering dedication to the welfare of Zimbabweans. Her benevolence has long been a hallmark of her public life, reflecting a deep commitment to uplifting communities and restoring dignity among the nation’s most vulnerable.
As the ZANU PF Secretary for Environment and Tourism, Dr Mnangagwa took the opportunity not only to distribute the hampers but also to engage the delegates with powerful messages of unity, diligence, and moral integrity. She urged citizens to remain disciplined, God-fearing, and respectful—values she said were at the core of the Zimbabwean identity.
“A person is defined by their character. To be human is to possess good character. Our nation is God-fearing, which shapes us into a disciplined people. We must always respect one another,” she said.
Turning her attention to tourism, Dr Mnangagwa highlighted Zimbabwe’s vast natural and cultural treasures, encouraging citizens to appreciate and promote domestic tourism. She commended Manicaland Province, the host region of the conference, for its breathtaking scenery and hospitality.
“Let us promote domestic tourism. Forbes has recognised Zimbabwe as one of the top tourist destinations because of our safety and hospitality. Tourism now stands alongside agriculture and mining as a major pillar of our economy,” she noted, urging provinces to host events such as sports tournaments to foster national unity and cultural exchange.
The Mother Zimbabwe also spoke passionately about preserving the country’s traditional values through platforms like her Dare initiative, which involves traditional courts presided over by chiefs. She underscored the importance of respecting cultural institutions and learning from them.

“Let us honour our traditional leaders. While modern courts handle legal disputes, traditional courts address spiritual and communal issues that define who we are. Observing them teaches us wisdom and strengthens our cultural roots,” Mother Zimbabwe said.
As a passionate farmer, Dr Mnangagwa encouraged Zimbabweans to prepare for the upcoming summer cropping season by planting drought-resistant crops, particularly in arid regions. “The rainy season is approaching. Those in dry areas should prioritise drought-resistant grains. Let us understand and work with the strengths of our land,” she advised.
In her capacity as Patron of the Environment, she reminded delegates of the need to protect forests, grasslands, and wildlife. “Our forests and natural grasslands are vital. Elders should continue sharing knowledge about medicinal plants. Many of our totems come from animals; we must protect them as part of our identity and heritage,” Mother Zimbabwe said.
Dr Mnangagwa also tackled pressing social challenges, including drug abuse and child marriage, calling for community vigilance and collective responsibility. “Drugs have devastating effects on our children. Combating this scourge requires unity and parental guidance. Mothers, let us ensure our young girls are protected from early pregnancies and child marriages,” she urged.

ZANU PF National Chairperson and Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, praised the First Lady’s dedication through her Angel of Hope Foundation, saying her work transcends politics. “Truly, a home is built by a woman. Amai’s work uplifts lives across all sectors—teaching life skills, promoting healthy lifestyles, and preserving cultural values. Her leadership is a model of compassion and strength,” she said.
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri further commended Dr Mnangagwa for enhancing Zimbabwe’s global image through tourism and environmental conservation, as well as her academic achievements that inspire young people to pursue education with determination.
ZANU PF Secretary-General and Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, echoed similar sentiments, describing the First Lady’s kindness as an extension of her love for the nation. “Your strength springs from love. These gifts are not for resale but tokens of that love. We thank you for reminding us of the power of generosity,” he said.
The party’s Political Commissar, Dr Munyaradzi Machacha, also praised her inclusive and non-partisan outreach efforts. “Your initiatives uplift the nation, preserve our values, and foster unity. Your love reaches beyond political lines—it is for all Zimbabweans,” he remarked.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, celebrated the province’s natural splendour, describing it as a microcosm of Zimbabwe’s beauty. He cited attractions such as Mount Nyangani, Mutarazi Falls—the second highest in Africa—the Vumba Botanical Gardens, and the iconic Birchenough Bridge, a symbol of engineering excellence and heritage.
He also mentioned the province’s unique sites like the Hot Springs, the Samanyika Museum, and Buhera’s miniature Great Zimbabwe Monuments, which collectively showcase the depth of the nation’s cultural legacy.
As the Mother Zimbabwe continues her nationwide tours under the Angel of Hope Foundation, her message remains consistent: love, unity, and service to humanity. Through initiatives like these food hampers, Mother Zimbabwe continues to spread warmth, embodying the spirit of a caring nation guided by compassion and hope.
