It seems as though award-winning actress and producer Connie Ferguson, has joined the second season of Netflix’s original series Kings of Joburg as a lead, following the untimely passing of her husband Shona Ferguson.
Shona who was one of the lead actors and producers of the series, died in July 2021 of Covid-19-related complications at age 47. Although Connie made a few appearances during the first season of the show as a mermaid, this time around she is most likely to lead the series.
Taking to her Instagram account, the actress gave her fans the first look at the series. She shared a reel that features some of Netflix’s top shows including How to Ruin Christmas- The Baby Shower and Blood and Water cast members.
Fans get a glimpse into the new cast members of the shows, including Connie.

Fans took to the comments section to express how happy they were that the series would return soon. The star-studded cast of Kings o Joburg season 1 featured the likes of Zolisa Xaluva, Cindy Mahlangu, Thembi Seete, Tsholofelo Matshaba, Tokollo Sebothoma, Abdul Khoza, SK Khoza, and Buhle Samuels.
Shona played the role of Simon “Vader” Masire, a member of the KOJ brotherhood and the eldest of the Masire siblings. Simon leads the family business as the smoother, more charismatic brother. However, underneath the lavish suits and ties is a man hiding a dark secret.
Production of season two started in May and Connie took to her Instagram account to thank Shona for everything.
“My angel, thank you for everything! Day 1 of KOJ on the 1st working day of the week was a success! You’d be very proud of the team! I certainly am! Long live my king. Long live,” she wrote.

In 2021, Shona won the award for most outstanding lead in a drama series at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPA) for his role in Kings of Joburg.
In an Instagram post, Connie did not shy from sharing how grateful and happy she felt that her husband was still being recognized for his great work and mind. In the post, she said, “These are major wins for all of us! I am so proud of this show and the hard work and passion that went into creating and making it! So much investment from everyone! To God be the Glory!… Thank you @hapawards for the nod!…”
