ZBC wins big at ZCN award

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) continues to be recognised for informing the nation on various issues, after its staffers and programmes won awards at the Zimbabwe Community News Awards held in Harare on Friday.

Champions in community development and empowerment were honoured at the third edition of the Zimbabwe Community News Awards where the role of media in the country’s development agenda was underscored.

The Deputy Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Kindness Paradza said, “As government, we appreciate excellency in execution of one’s duties as we build our country together brick by brick as what President Mnangagwa always says. The Fourth Estate, we applaud you for advancing this noble profession although there is more that can be done to improve conditions of service. This year’s awards are being held under the theme, Celebrating Zimbabwe’s Success Through Diversity.”

ZBC Assistant News Editor, Wadzanai Mhombera, musician Michael Mahendere and Pastor Daisy Mukariri were among the community champions honoured. They spoke on their vision to continue initiatives that empower communities.

“I am happy about this recognition. For me, it is a recognition of the national broadcaster particularly the News and Current Affairs department. We give people loca, regional and international news. So when you get such an award you look back and say we are doing a good job. So, I am sure my colleague editors and reporters will continue doing a good job,” said Mhombera.

Another recognitions in community empowerment went to a ZBC human trafficking documentary by Theophilus Chuma.

ZBC sports commentator Charles Mabika was also honoured.
