AKA’S body arrives in Joburg

The body of the late rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA, has arrived in Johannesburg, the family’s legal representative Rudolf Baloyi confirms. According to SABC, Baloyi said that the family went to Durban on Saturday, 11 February to identify the body.

They spent time with the detectives before taking the body to Johannesburg. Yesterday, as you would have seen, we spent the day in Durban, where we went to identify him with the brother and the father. We spent time with the detectives and came back with him and he is now in Johannesburg,” the report quoted Baloyi as saying. In a statement, AKA’S family thanked South Africans for the love and support they have shown during this difficult time.

The family further appealed for compassion, space, and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days.

“To us Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo. To many he was AKA, SUPAMEGA, BHOVA and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by.

“Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as family to decide on the upcoming days,” reads the statement.

AKA was killed ‘execution style’ on Friday, 10 February, when gunmen opened fire on him and Motsoane at Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal. CCTV footage of the incident has been widely shared on social media.
