An arrest has been made in connection with the violence that erupted in Gokwe-Nembudziya where suspected Citizens Coalition for Change members allegedly attacked ZANU PF supporters over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying a suspect has been arrested, while other suspects are reported to be on the run.
“ZRP is conducting investigations into a political violence incident in Gokwe Nembudziya on 12 February. So far, investigations have led us to the arrest of one suspect. We will leave no stone unturned in issues of violence and assure you that as investigations continue,” he said.
The victims, who were part of voter mobilization and awareness campaign, are receiving medical attention at Gokwe North District Hospital.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record calling for peace and tolerance as the country heads for harmonised elections this year.
