Better Brands Mining general manager Cuthbert Chitima has said the mining company owned by Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya has not spoken to Yadah FC over a possible takeover.
Better Brands Jewellery, a leading mining and trading company with a vast network of small to medium-sized gold mines in Zimbabwe is currently sponsoring Yadah FC.
Sakupwanya watched the Walter Magaya-run club win against new boys Green Fuel on Monday in their opening match of the season.
Yadah FC’s kit had Better Brands as their main shirt sponsor.
In an interview with NewsDay Sport, Chitima said:
Currently we are working with Yadah FC, we are their sponsors for this season hence the club’s kit carries the Better Brands logo. We hope to see the relationship growing and to see the club perform well this season.
Quizzed on reports that Scott intends a complete takeover of the Yadah FC franchise, Chitima said:
We haven’t had such talks, currently we are on a sponsorship deal. If anything of that sort happens we shall give advice.
Yadah was hit by a massive player exodus during the transfer window period.
Franchise owner Magaya put up his club for sale, in 2019 saying he was channelling his energy to other sporting disciplines.
Yadah FC was originally formed as Gunners in 2005 by Cuthbert Chitima.
Gunners were later on purchased by Walter Magaya in 2014, changing the team’s name to Yadah Gunners.
They were relegated from the top-flight league to division one in 2012. The team returned to topflight action as Yadah Stars after an impressive season in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One league.
