The community of Motlolo Village outside Driekop, Limpopo took the law into their own hands on Tuesday, 28 March.
They allegedly stoned Calbin Mohlala (39) to death after the body of 13-year-old Kabelo Malatji was found in his house on Monday, 27 March.
Kabelo went missing on Friday, 24 March after she left home to attend extra classes at a nearby school.
According to a resident, a search for Kabelo was conducted with no success.
“However, there was an unpleasant smell coming from Calbin’s house and residents alerted the cops.
“Upon arrival, they forced entry and found the body of the teenage girl in a decomposed state. A murder case was opened at Driekop Police Station,” said the resident.
Afterwards, villagers mobilised to look for Calbin and found him hiding in the same village.
He was allegedly stoned to death.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the cops found Mohlala with severe wounds.
He was later declared dead by Emergency Medical Services.
“The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered the immediate manhunt for the unknown suspects who allegedly stoned Calbin Mohlala to death,” he said.
A manhunt for the unknown suspects has since been launched and anyone with information that can help the police can contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Daniel Mohlala on 079 875 7771 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
“Police investigations continue,” said Mojapelo.
