President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been invited to attend the coronation of King Charles III in the United Kingdom in May this year. This comes as the global community continues to warm up to the Second Republic.
United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Melanie Robinson this Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare, with deliberations centered on bilateral relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Robinson took the opportunity to extend the UK’s invitation for President Mnangagwa to attend the coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey on the 6th of May this year, a sign of acknowledgement of Zimbabwe’s engagement and re-engagement agenda.
“We had a good meeting with the President of Zimbabwe and we had the opportunity to talk about arrangements for the coronation of the king in the UK. We also cared to speak about trade between the two nations in relation to preparations for ZITF. We discussed the elections in which the President vowed that will be presided over peacefully,” she said.
The invitation extended to President Mnangagwa comes as positive feedback from the country’s engagement and re-engagement agenda, considering that a Zimbabwe leader has not attended events of such magnitude in the UK since the turn of the millennium when Zimbabwe pulled out of the Commonwealth.
