Kadoma man on the run after selling employer’s mining claims

A Kadoma man is on the run after he  allegedly sold his employer’s mining claims. Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that the suspect Gerald Machimula aged 40 vanished with US$134 000 after he had sold his employer’s mining claims in Midlands.

“Police have launched a manhunt for a 40-year-old Kadoma man for a spate of fraud cases. The total amount involved is USD $134 000,” Mahoko said.

Mahoko explained the circumstances.

“The suspect is Gerald Takunda Machimula aged 40 years of Westview in Kadoma who was employed by Geo Associates Pvt Ltd, a Harare-based company, which owns mining claims in and around Midlands Province. The suspect was the company’s representative based in Midlands province,” he said.

The fraud came to light following the company’s routine audit.

“Through a routine audit of the company books and records, it was discovered that the suspect had sold several claims to individuals and pocketed all the proceeds. To hide his fraudulent activities, the suspect issued counterfeit receipts and certificates and later vanished into thin air,” said Mahoko.

Police are appealing for information from members of the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
