The country is vibrating to the rhythm of domestic football with Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match attendance figures going up with each passing week.
Football is slowly reclaiming its place in Zimbabwean sports with fans turning up in their numbers at various venues across the country.
Last weekend’s Harare derby featuring old foes CAPS United and Dynamos attracted over 18 000 fans at the National Sports Stadium, with others even arguing the figure could be higher.
A comparison to last year’s Harare derby shows that there has been a remarkable increase in the number of fans paying to catch a glimpse of local football action.
It is not only the Harare derby that attracted a huge crowd but the Southern Region derby between Highlanders and Hwange, which attracted a capacity crowd at Babourfields stadium.
The match between Highlanders and FC Platinum played at Barbourfields Stadium earlier in the season also had a bumper crowd, with over 11 000 fans paying to watch the encounter.
It has not only been these isolated matches but the season, in general, has seen a marked increase in the number of fans making their way to various venues across the country.
The fact that the traditional big three, Dynamos, Highlanders, and CAPS United have started the season on a good note has added colour to the vibrating sound of domestic football.
The good times are set to roll after new boys Sheasham’s Bata Stadium in Gweru was approved to host topflight matches alongside Hwange’s colliery stadium.
