Kwekwe (New Ziana) – Two people were ruthlessly butchered in Kwekwe’s Mbizo high-density suburb, as murder cases in the gold mining city continue to increase, police have said.
The two, a man identified as Lovemore Marume (64), and a woman still to be identified, were found lying dead within 100 metres of each other on Tuesday evening.
The brutal deaths have sent shivers down the spines of city residents, who now leave in fear of similar attacks, usually carried out by unruly artisanal miners.
Midlands provincial police said they had begun investigations into the gruesome murder, specifically trying to find the murderers and establishing their motive.
Gruesome murders in and around Kwekwe, often carried out with machetes, are mainly associated with artisanal miners.
The area has large numbers of artisanal gold miners.
