The construction of the US$3 million Mountain Lake Resort and Spa in Nyanga is nearing completion with the investment expected to improve tourism packages in the resort area.
Famous for amazing tourist attractions such as Nyangani Mountain and Mtarazi Falls, further investments are expected to draw more tourists to Nyanga.
The three-million-dollar Mountain Lake Resort and Spa is one of the projects changing the face of the tourism industry in Nyanga.
Site manager, Trever Chuma says there is huge progress as the project nears completion.
“This investment is worth US$3 million and so far, we have utilised 2.4 million United States dollars. The project commenced in 2019, with the sole objective to become Africa’s number one tourism resort destination of choice,” he said.
“We have 16 self-catering solar-powered chalets which have a combined capacity of 96 guests and a five-star restaurant. On completion, the resort will have the capacity to host over 5 000 tourists every year. We have also taken a step further to construct 2 dams, which we estimate to yield over 5 tonnes of trout fish annually,” he added.
The project, which has created employment for at least 400 people, has excited the Nyanga community.
“The construction of the structures created employment for villagers in Ward 24. This will also ensure we become activity players in the tourism sector and improve the local economy,” noted Nyanga Ward 24 resident, Talent Kadzuma.
“This development has increased tourism establishments in Nyanga District. This investment by the locals is in line with the mantra, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’,” stated Nyanga South legislator, Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira.
The government is equally excited about the project which is expected to give tourists more accommodation options.
“Manicaland province’s hotel room capacity currently stands at 1 765. This investment will add up to the capacity. What is pleasing to note is that this facility is owned by a Zimbabwean and is turning Manicaland into one of the most preferred tourism destinations,” asserted Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere.
“It is important to note that tourism is the third largest sector in the country after agriculture and mining. This project is a direct answer to the NDS1 clarion call to boost tourism’s Gross Domestic Product from 1.1% in 2020 to 5% by 2025,” emphasised Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes Permanent Secretary, Mrs Fananai Madambi.
“Remember government’s strategy is to have a private sector-led economy, in this regard, Grand Homes Property Development Company (G-Tel Zimbabwe) has responded positively with an investment of USD$3 million project. Contributing significantly to the District/ Provincial GDP.”
“This 16-Resort Chalet project is adding 48 rooms and over 200 people conference space in Nyanga District. Already, the District is home to Montclair and Troutbeck Hotels, Rhodes Hotel and Lodges, among others.”
6000 peach trees and 1 000 macadamia trees have been planted alongside a Trout fish project which is part of agro-tourism.
Mountain Lake Resort and Spa project is being implemented under the government’s 100-Day Cycle Programme.
