Bryan Cranston has opened up about his marriage to his wife Robin Dearden, revealing they started therapy before getting married.
The Breaking Bad actor, 67, discussed his work and home life, including being godfather to his co-star Aaron Paul’s son Ryden, 14 months in an interview with British GQ.
Screen star Bryan also disclosed plans to shut down his production company and sell his half of mezcal business Dos Hombres, with a desire to retire in 2026 and move to a foreign country for at least six months with his wife Robin, 69.
He said: ‘I want to change the paradigm once again. For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail.
‘She’s been the plus one, she’s been the wife of a celebrity. She’s had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine.
‘She has tremendous benefit from it, but we’re uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it.’
Bryan met his wife Robin Dearden in 1984, with the couple marrying five years later after he proposed in the bathtub, with the ring on his toe.
The star, who also has credits in Malcolm In The Middle, Wakefield, and Isle of Dogs, said that he wants to ‘go the distance’ in his marriage.
‘My wife and I have been going to therapy together since before we were married’, he said.
‘I look at it like the warning light going off on your dashboard. It’s telling you, “You might want to pay attention to this”.
‘I love my wife, and we want to go the distance, but I want to do it healthily, I don’t want to just be with her.
‘I don’t want to just have the two of us go into a restaurant and no one says a word.’
Known for playing Walter White in the Emmy Award-winning TV series Breaking Bad, Bryan became close with co-star Aaron Paul on set and is godfather to his son.
He discussed what it was like to have a godson, telling GQ it was allowing him to ‘go through the experience of what it feels like to be a grandfather’.
He said his jaws hurt from smiling, adding that he loves to play with and hold his godson.
In May, Bryan appeared at Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Wes Anderson’s film Asteroid City, in which Bryan stars.
The movie which is directed by Wes Anderson follows the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer convention that is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.
Asteroid City stars the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, and Margot Robbie.
It is anticipated that he will now get involved in the Malcolm In The Middle reunion project.
Malcolm In The Middle aired from 2000 to 2006 and saw Cranston play Hal, who is father to four sons with his wife Lois, played by Jane Kaczmarek.
Talking about the show, Cranston said: ‘I’m curious about that family 20 years later, what happened to them? Where are they? What are the kids doing? They’re grown men now.’
The summer issue of British GQ is available to buy from June 13.
Bryan Cranston will be speaking at the conference in association with BMW, taking place at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire from the 19th – the 21st of July.

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show posted on Thursday, the film producer opens up about his mental health since the couple ended their relationship and shared his feelings on Good’s rumored relationship with Jonathan Majors.
“Healing. Mentally, I’m doing much better,” Franklin shares. “But the process to that, like, I can sit here before all of you and have this interview and be calm and introspective and all that. But that comes from a process, you know? I mean, there are nights [where] I’m crying myself to sleep. You know, there are moments when I’ve been angry, but I’ve allowed myself to feel whatever I felt to heal because in my experience, when I’m not facing what I’m feeling, then I’m trying to find something else to help me get through the pain.”Read More
