A 41-year-old man from Bulawayo was murdered in Filabusi following a misunderstanding with his drinking mate over a girlfriend. Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo confirmed the murder.
The deceased was identified as Sindiso Mkwebu from Nketa high-density suburb in Bulawayo. The suspect is Mehluli Moyo from 2 Hopoplan village under, Chief Bunini Somabula in Gweru.
“On August 12 at 10 pm, Moyo was drinking beer at Mamdlongwa bottle store, Khayanyama, Filabusi. He had a misunderstanding with Mkhwebu over a girlfriend and the two engaged in a fistfight. The suspect realized that he was being overpowered,” the acting police spokesperson said.
The suspect reportedly then fled to his house and returned armed with a knife and stabbed Mkhwebu once on the lower left side of the abdomen.
Mkhwebu died on the spot. A report was made to the police and the suspect was arrested.
“We want to urge the community to desist from using violence as a dispute resolution method. People should use relatives, traditional leaders, and the police to solve their disputes,” the acting police spokesperson said.
