DJ Khaled feels that incorporating golf into his life is a “no-brainer” when it comes to weight loss. While promoting his partnership with Ryder Cup in an interview published by Us Weekly on Wednesday, Khaled confessed that golf has helped him focus on and maintain his overall health.
He told the outlet that his current weight sits at 263 pounds, and he’s over 20 pounds lighter thanks to the sport.
The Grammy winner also opened up on his daily routine. “[I] wake up in the morning, pray, kiss my kids [and] my wife,” he said. After a “light breakfast,” he typically dresses in his golf gear and makes his way to the golf course.
“I do it every day and I get a chance to sit on the golf cart or walking about to answer an email or a call and handle my business,” the “GOD DID” artist, 47, said. “It’s so much [more] pleasurable, meaning [being around] the nature, the sun. It cleanses me.”
His best comparison to the feeling he gets while golfing is that “it’s almost like going in the ocean without going in the ocean.”
While speaking with the outlet, Khaled also explained how his hobby helps him to create “priceless” bonding moments with his family.
“My two boys, they love golf — Asahd and Aalam — they’re 6 and 3 and they love golf,” Khaled said of his sons, whom he shares with his wife Nicole Tuck. “When they’re not in school on the weekends or holidays, they go play golf with dad. And that’s a beautiful thing to do to be able to play golf with my boys and just kick it.”
Khaled spoke exclusively to PEOPLE in May when he shed light on how seeing his family happy brings him joy.
“Forget what I love to do. I love seeing what he loves to do and I support my kids in anything they want to do,” Khaled shared. “And the beautiful thing is we like each other. We like some of the same things. Like father, like son. I like to golf. They like to golf. I like to play basketball. They like to play basketball. I like to go in the studio. They like to go in the studio. I guess that’s it. That’s in the DNA.”
At the time, the “POPSTAR” hitmaker shared that he had lost 15 pounds by playing golf regularly.
“Some people go to yoga, some people go to the gym. And I love everybody’s choices,” Khaled told PEOPLE. “Because I’ve been to yoga, I’ve been to the gym, but I play golf and it’s been working for me. I love the game and I love what it’s doing for me to move my body. I’m more flexible. That wasn’t even me going into golf thinking I’m trying to get rid of weight. It naturally happened.”
Khaled loves the sport so much that in July, he held his inaugural We the Best Foundation Golf Classic in Miami. Some of those who came out to support the event included Larsa Pippen and boyfriend Marcus Jordan, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Bun B.
