The trial of imprisoned opposition leader Job Sikhala and Chitungwiza North legislator Godfrey Sithole has been postponed. This delay occurred after the politicians’ legal representatives expressed their unavailability due to prior commitments at the High Court.
The trial had already faced interruptions earlier, primarily due to delays from the State’s side. Defense lawyers Jeremiah Bhamu, Harrison Nkomo, and Oliver Marwa subsequently requested a postponement of the trial to a later date.
Sikhala and Sithole were arrested on June 14th last year, alongside 14 other activists affiliated with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from Chitungwiza’s Nyatsime area. They were accused of inciting public violence.
These arrests followed the murder of CCC activist Blessing Ali, allegedly by a suspected Zanu PF supporter. Reportedly, suspected Zanu PF members attacked mourners and disrupted Ali’s funeral on June 12th last year.
The trial will now resume on October 2nd.
