Megan Thee Stallion didn’t have a heated exchange with Justin Timberlake at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) last night, it’s been suggested following the awards show.
The rapper, 28, was among the nominees at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday evening. She was seen backstage at one point during the ceremony, alongside singer Justin, 42, and some of his *NSYNC bandmates.
The footage – which has attracted attention on social media -appeared to show Megan interacting with the band as they walked past her. Some people felt there had been a tense exchange, though that’s since been denied by sources.
The clip – which has amassed more than a million views in one tweet alone – showed Megan raising her hand and waving her finger towards someone, whilst having her hair touched up. Justin and some of his bandmates, like Joey Fatone, are then seen heading past her backstage.
Some people thought it looked like Megan and Justin were “arguing” and that she was “mad over something” at the VMAs, which saw *NSYNC reunite for the first time in years. It’s however since been suggested that Megan – who performed the new song Bongos with Cardi B during the event – was actually just “excited” in the backstage moment as she met Justin for the first time.
Sources told People magazine that they weren’t in a heated exchange, with it suggested that the rapper had been telling him in the footage that she’d like to spend time together in a ‘less chaotic setting’ sometime in the future. A source told the outlet, amid the speculation over the now viral footage, that he had said it was “nice” to meet her, and that she responded by saying it didn’t “count,” with the source adding that she told him: “We gotta meet proper”.
Another source suggested similarly to the outlet, dismissing the idea of any tension. They said Megan “loves” Justin, adding: “She was saying, ‘No, no, no, we’ve never met before!’ It was their first time meeting and she was excited.” Megan attended the VMAs alongside other nominees, with the music video for her song Her having been nominated in three categories including Best Direction. It had also been up for Best Choreography and Best Art Direction.
