Aaron Spears, the drummer for Ariana Grande, has died at the age of 47, according to the singer. Jessica, a former member of Ariana’s touring crew and Aaron’s wife, posted a tribute on Aaron’s Instagram. She and Aaron were married for 11 years and had a child together, a son named August.
The post read: “It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that I share the news of the passing of my beloved husband, Aaron Spears. Aaron was not only an incredibly accomplished drummer, admired by many for his unparalleled talent and passion for music, but he was also a devoted father to our precious son, August.”
“His love, guidance, and warmth were the pillars of our family, and his absence leaves a void that words cannot describe. We are blessed to have him in our lives, his legacy will live on through the beautiful rhythms he created and the love he shared with us,” it continued.
Jessica ended the post by asking for privacy and to remember Aaron. She wrote: “We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please remember Aaron for the incredible person he was and the amazing music he brought into our world. At this time we ask for privacy as we work our way through this. With love, Jessica and August.”
Ariana left a comment on the post, sharing her condolences with the family. She wrote: “Heartbroken. My condolences to you all. I love you guys and I am so sorry. My heart is with you.” Other celebrities and industry professionals added their condolences, including Questlove who wrote: “I can’t believe this.”
The Break Free singer also posted about her drummer on her Instagram Story. “I can’t wrap my head around this. We were all so incredibly lucky to know Aaron. The absolute brightest light of a human being,” she wrote.
“Always the kindest, always smiling, I am so honoured and thankful that our paths crossed and to have spent so much very special time together. Thank you for your utter brilliance, for our laughs, and for your kindness always. i will miss your hugs. You are so, so loved and will be so very missed,” she finished her story post, which included a black and white photo of Aaron behind the drums.
Neither Jessica nor Ariana mentioned a cause of death for the 47-year-old. Besides working with Ariana, Aaron worked with Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus. He was also nominated for a Grammy for his work on Usher’s 2004 album Confessions.
