Meghan Markle ‘s brilliant portrayal of the talented and intelligent Rachel Zane in the hit legal drama Suits was the acting big break she’d been chasing for years. The show became an instant hit, giving her celebrity status and a platform to talk about the things she’s passionate about. But it also gave her cash – and a lot of it.
Before s tepping into the Pearson Hardman office for the first time, Meghan’s appearances had mainly been minor roles in films. She had a cameo as a barmaid in the movie Remember Me, which featured Robert Pattison, as well as small parts in Horrible Bosses, Get Him To The Greek, Random Encounters and Dysfunctional Friends. She also had a small stint as a Briefcase Girl on Deal or No Deal.
The actress recorded more than 100 episodes of Suits, starring in over seven seasons of the hit USA Network show, which is now on Netflix, as Rachel Zane. She reportedly earned £37,000 per episode, putting her annual salary at £333,000.
And as part of her contract with the show, Meghan is still earning royalties from her appearances. According to Marie Claire, Meghan and the show’s other stars get cash every time the episodes air in the US or on the NBA Peacock streaming service. They also report that Meghan will get cash from Netflix, which is good news for her as the show is still regularly in the most popular streams on the platform.
According to sources, it was these royalties that helped Meghan and Prince Harry buy their stunning Montecito home after they quit their royal roles and left the UK back in 2020.
According to Forbes, Meghan contributed an estimated $2 million towards the stunning home, which came from her work on the films and Suits. The rest of the cash came from Harry’s inheritance from his mum Princess Diana, which he admitted while accusing King Charles of cutting him off financially.
When asked by Oprah directly if they cut him off, Harry replied: “Yeah, in the first half, the first quarter of 2020. But I’ve got what my mum left me, and, without that, we would not have been able to do this.”
