Harare-based Afro-fusion artist Kudzai Andrew Ngwenya, widely known as Andy Muridzo, and his ex-wife Chido Manyange, also known as Mai Keketso, appeared in the Harare Civil Court on a matter concerning custody of their two children. They appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Marufu in a case where Muridzo sought custody of their two minor children.
Both parties reached an agreement that the applicant would have custody of the older child, while the respondent would have custody of the younger child. Muridzo, through his lawyer Chodochamaria Nyanhongo, stated that he would be responsible for supporting both minors but that the respondent should have custody of the youngest child, who is only four years old.
Magistrate Marufu advised that it would be in the best interest of the minors not to be separated from their mother. She ordered Nyanhongo and the respondent to draft an agreement to ensure that the children are not separated.
This isn’t the first legal battle between Muridzo and his estranged wife. In 2019, Mai Keketso took Andy Muridzo to court, demanding a monthly child maintenance payment of US$1,800 to support their two minor children. In 2018, Mai Keketso was arrested for assaulting the Delilah hitmaker after confronting him while he was with friends.
