The Good Burger 2 star, 45, detailed Tuesday’s trip to the ER in a new Instagram vlog, where he explained that the symptoms he was feeling were caused by a prior injury. Mitchell previously revealed on Wednesday that he had a “genuinely frightening” medical episode the day before.
“I was out shopping when suddenly the whole room started spinning,” Mitchell said in his new video, posted Friday. “So I was like, ‘I must be dehydrated so I need to go get some water, some food.’ ”
“When I did that, the whole right side of my arm was numb, followed by me not being able to swallow,” he added. “That’s when I panicked. And so I drove myself to the hospital.”
While in the ER, Mitchell failed an “arm and leg test” that ultimately raised concerns over something “more serious” happening to him, he added.
“Because I could not move my right arm, my motor skills were not working, so CT scan, EKGs, everything they started doing on me. That’s why I had to stay over night,” he said.
But, as Mitchell explained, what he feared “actually wasn’t what it was.”
“It was actually a bulging disc that I had from a prior injury that was pressing up against a nerve, mimicking all those symptoms that I was going through,” he said.
“I’m thanking God that I am good. Thank y’all for all the prayers in the comments. Even the crazy ones. I saw the, ‘Give him some orange soda in his IV,’ ” the Nickelodeon alum added, referencing his Keenan and Kel character.
Mitchell first opened up about his medical experience earlier in the week, shortly after TMZ reported that he was admitted to a Los Angeles-area hospital via an emergency room. At the time, Mitchell wrote that he was “grateful for the flood of prayers and positive vibes that surrounded me during a genuinely frightening time.”
“That scare was real, but so was the support. With the grace of God and the skill of the medical team, I’m now on the road to recovery at home, embraced by the love of my family,” he wrote.
“Your kindness has been a lifeline, and I can’t thank you enough. Much love to each of you. ❤️🙏💪🏿.”
Several peers showed support for the actor on Instagram this past week, including Damon Wayans Jr. and Yvette Nicole Brown.
The father of four — who shares his youngest children son Honor, 3, and daughter Wisdom, 6, with wife Asia Lee — is just weeks away from the release of Good Burger 2, which arrives on Paramount+ on Nov. 22. The film reunites costars Mitchell and Kenan Thompson as their characters Dexter and Ed from the original 1997 film.
“Dexter Reed is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails,” a synopsis for the film reads. “Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”
