Marvel star Carrie Bernans was seriously injured after being involved in an alleged hit-and-run in New York City. The actress was reportedly struck by one of nine people by the driver at around 1:30 am on Monday while walking past a food stand with her friends. She thanked her Instagram followers for their well wishes, but revealed that she’s still in “so much pain.”
The incident comes just months after she welcomed her first child – a baby boy named Jaxon. Carrie is in stable condition and is currently undergoing surgery after the incident. Carrie said: “I’m in so much pain and I still can’t walk right now.” She explained that while she’s still managing to care for her child, her family has stepped in to help her out, adding: “I haven’t gotten enough sleep in a long time.”
In another upload, Carrie showed her gruesome injuries and bruised, swollen face, sharing the details of her injuries, stating that she had “lots of fractures and some broken bones” before adding that so far, she’s only had one surgery.
Her publicist informed Deadline that the actress, who starred as one of the elite female warriors in Marvel’s Black Panther alongside Lupita Nyong’o and Letitia Wright, was struck at Chirp, a Peruvian restaurant in midtown Manhattan when a driver crashed into the venue before reversing and hitting a car in an attempt to escape.
Her mother, Patricia Lee, told her followers on Instagram that her daughter had been knocked unconscious. She said: “She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time…She’s in so much pain but healing.
“She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend & her were walking near,” Patricia continued. “It ended up knocking her unconscious and pended her under the stand. She was under it unaware of what was happening.
“She has a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth but thank God that she’s alive. Nine people were injured in his attempted escape from the hit & run, including three police officers.”
Patricia concluded: “Police caught him shortly after and arrested him. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.”
