5 injured in Durban as vehicle collides with electricity box

Five individuals sustained critical injuries after their vehicle careened into an electricity box and wall on Main Road in Malvern, Durban, just before midnight last Friday.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, the scene was one of chaos upon their arrival. The vehicle had lost control, crashing into both the electricity box and a wall, resulting in all five occupants becoming severely trapped in the wreckage.

“The eThekwini fire department was immediately called in for assistance, alongside additional ambulances,” Jamieson reported. “Advanced life support paramedics worked diligently to stabilize the critically injured individuals still trapped inside. Meanwhile, the Durban fire department deployed the ‘jaws of life’ and other hydraulic equipment to extricate them.”

Once freed, the men, all believed to be in their twenties, were carefully transferred into waiting ALS Paramedics ambulances and subsequently transported to various hospitals across Durban.

Jamieson noted that the circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, with police currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
