Police have apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a series of armed robberies across Harare, while a third suspect was fatally shot during a confrontation with law enforcement. In a statement released yesterday, National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Kenneth Chiputura, 50, and Jaison Munyapa, 18, who are linked to multiple armed robbery cases that occurred between May 31 and July 23, 2024. The third suspect, Raymond Mugabe, 39, died from injuries sustained in a shootout with police.
According to Commissioner Nyathi, detectives from the CID Homicide unit in Harare arrested Kenneth Chiputura at his residence in Nhamburo village, Chinamhora, Domboshava, on Friday. The arrest came after police received credible information connecting Chiputura to the robberies that took place in Mandara. During his arrest, police recovered a bulletproof vest and 40 Chinese yuan.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Jaison Munyapa on Saturday. Munyapa was found in possession of a CZ 75 SP-01 pistol and a Retay air gun. Raymond Mugabe, who was also implicated in the robbery cases, was shot by detectives during a dramatic shootout. The confrontation occurred as Mugabe was hiding in a house in Dzorwa village, Chinamhora, Domboshava. Mugabe was pronounced dead upon arrival at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
At the scene of Mugabe’s arrest, police recovered a significant arsenal of weaponry, including a CZ P-07 pistol, a .44 Magnum revolver, a Grand Power 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, eight 9mm magazines, 1,000 9mm live rounds, 28 .303 live rounds, and nine Magnum rounds.
The trio is linked to two major armed robbery incidents. The first occurred on May 31 at a residence on Ruwanga Road, Mandara, where US$15,000, four firearms, and jewelry were stolen. The second robbery took place on July 23 at a property on Duiker Street, Mandara, resulting in the theft of US$1,000 and valuables estimated at US$1,000.
“Investigations are ongoing to locate additional suspects identified as Blessing and Mavhunga. Efforts are also being made to recover stolen property and uncover any further criminal activities associated with the suspects,” Nyathi stated. The police have urged anyone with information on the remaining suspects or related crimes to come forward as the investigation continues.

The renowned South African rapper, celebrated for his influential role in the country’s music scene, was forced to miss his birthday party on Friday, July 26, 2024. In a heartfelt apology posted on Instagram, Da Les explained that “due to unfortunate circumstances” he was unable to attend the event.
In response to growing concerns, Da Les’s family released a statement confirming the rapper’s medical condition. “The family of the renowned South African musician Da Les is deeply saddened to inform the public that he suffered a stroke at home on Friday, 26 July 2024, and has been hospitalized,” the statement read.
