Two teenagers from Harare are facing serious legal trouble after allegedly killing a 33-year-old man, Nelson Chiripanyanga, during a violent altercation over a commercial sex worker. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident, which has shocked the local community.
According to Nyathi, the altercation occurred in Southlea Park, where the two male juveniles, aged 17 and 16, reportedly engaged Chiripanyanga in a physical confrontation. The fight escalated when the juveniles used both their fists and an unknown sharp object against the victim. The argument was reportedly centered around a dispute involving a lady of the night. The two teenagers are now under investigation for murder as police continue to gather evidence and piece together the details of the case.
In a separate case, police in Marondera have detained Knowledge Kapesa (36), who is suspected to be mentally ill, in connection with another murder. The incident took place at Rasternburg Farm on July 27, 2024. Kapesa allegedly attacked his father, Manuel Kapesa (76), with stones after a disagreement over sweet potatoes. The assault resulted in Manuel Kapesa’s death at the scene.
Both cases underscore the growing concerns about violence and mental health issues in Zimbabwe, prompting calls for improved support systems and more robust law enforcement responses. The investigations into both incidents are ongoing as authorities seek to address the tragic outcomes of these violent confrontations.
