The state has dropped charges against rapper and TV presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, including allegations of rape, attempted murder, and assault. In a letter dated June 20 to Maarohanye’s lawyers, acting deputy director of public prosecution TJ Mbodi cited insufficient prospects for a successful prosecution based on a thorough review of the police docket and prosecutors’ report, along with the defense’s representations.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana confirmed the decision, stating, “After careful consideration of the case docket, prosecutor’s report, and representations made to the director of public prosecution’s office, it was determined that there are no reasonable prospects of successful prosecution. Therefore, the charges against Molemo Maarohanye have been withdrawn.”
Earlier, TV personality and businesswoman Amanda du-Pont had accused Maarohanye of admitting to raping her, as outlined in a statement submitted to police in support of a rape case filed at the Brixton police station in Johannesburg in 2022. Du-Pont initially made these allegations in a video posted on her Instagram account following Maarohanye’s comments about their past relationship during an interview with podcaster Mac G.
