Kulcha Houz Studios, a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s music scene, has firmly established itself as a hub of creativity and artistic expression in Harare. Located in both the central business district and Belvedere, the studio offers invaluable space for music rehearsals and recordings, catering to a diverse array of artists including Freeman, Josphat Somanje, Willom Tight, Nyamasvisva, and Roki.

To mark the launch of Zimbabwe’s new currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZWG, previously known as ZiG), Trust Samende, renowned guitarist and proprietor of the studio, along with music director for the internationally-acclaimed band Mokoomba, spearheaded the Vamudhara song initiative. This collaborative effort brought together some of Zimbabwe’s most talented musicians, orchestrated and produced at Kulcha Houz Studios. Leading the ensemble with her powerful vocals is songbird Prudence Katomeni.

The production team behind the song includes industry professionals such as Kudakwashe Gonye (Gangsta Madeit), Chiweddar, Cornelius Muponda, and Clive “Mono” Mukundu, with Trust Samende serving as project coordinator and overall producer.

The initiative was made possible through a collaboration with former Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development minister Jonathan Moyo, who composed the song. Moyo, known for his contributions to the music scene including founding the band Pax Afro and penning all the songs in its hit album Back2Black (2001), has been instrumental in shaping Zimbabwe’s music landscape.

A special highlight of the project was Prudence Katomeni’s role as lead vocalist, supported by a cast of talented artists including Sandra Ndebele, Allan Chimbetu, Jeyz Marabani, Rudo Madindi, DT Bio Mudimba, Mary Anibal, Bryan Kadengu, Hansel “Ma9” Ndlovu, and the Joyful Praise Choir. Session musicians included guitarists Mathew Ngorima and Sylent Nqo, alongside vocal arranger Gamaliel Madindi.

Reflecting on Kulcha Houz Studios’ mission, Trust Samende emphasized its commitment to nurturing musical talents and providing a platform that meets international standards. The studio not only supports artists in honing their craft but also equips them with business acumen to sustain their careers and capitalize on income opportunities in the music industry.

The music video for the song was released recently on YouTube, garnering attention and praise for its celebration of Zimbabwean talent and unity. Jeyz Marabani, expressing his gratitude, remarked, “It was a wonderful experience working with such great musicians. This is a Zimbabwean song that unites local musicians.
