Mike Chimombe and Mpofu’s bail hearing postponed again

ZANU-PF central committee member Mike Chimombe (43) and his business partner Moses Mpofu (49) will remain in custody as their bail application has been postponed to the following day by Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa. They are being represented by lawyers Ashwell Mugiya and Tapson Dzvetero, respectively.

During the bail hearing, Dzvetero contested allegations made by investigating officer Gamuchirai Zimunhu, arguing that Mpofu does not reside in Avondale. He also asserted that Blackdeck (Pvt) Limited, a company implicated in the case, should face charges independently from his client.

Dzvetero pointed out that Mpofu had cooperated with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigations, despite being sidelined by lead investigator Henry Chapwanya. He emphasized Chimombe and Mpofu’s readiness to assist in the probe.

Chimombe and Mpofu stand accused of defrauding the government of over US$7 million allocated for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.
