Nigerians roast South Africa’s fashion designers after Durban July 2024

Nigerians have taken to social media to humorously critique South Africa’s fashion designers following the successful Durban July 2024 over the weekend. The Durban July, renowned for its prestigious horse racing and glamorous fashion displays, attracted designers and fashion enthusiasts from across the continent.

However, this year’s event has sparked a wave of playful commentary from Nigerians, who have humorously scrutinized some of the bold fashion choices showcased at the event. Despite drawing apparent inspiration from Nigerian designs, a few South African fashion designers failed to leave a lasting impression, prompting a flurry of critiques from Nigerians who had higher expectations.

Influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee sported an outfit inspired by Nigerian fashion, but unfortunately, her designer’s execution fell short of expectations, leading to ridicule from social media users in both Mzansi and Nigeria.

“If you’re going to borrow or be inspired by someone else’s work, at least do it justice,” commented one user.
