Prominent businessman Mike Chimombe evicted amid legal troubles

In a series of setbacks for businessman Mike Chimombe, his company Millytake Enterprises (Private) Limited faces eviction from its Eastlea offices in Harare. Chimombe, along with his business partner Moses Mpofu, is currently embroiled in legal proceedings for allegedly defrauding the government of over US$7 million intended for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme. Additionally, they are implicated in another scandal involving Wicknell Chivayo, where they allegedly secured a corrupt US$40 million tender from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) for electoral materials during the controversial 2023 general elections.

Chimombe’s troubles escalated as the new property owner moved to evict Millytake Enterprises, following the cancellation of their lease by the previous owner. Despite the legal order to vacate, Chimombe reportedly resisted, prompting the new owners to seek court intervention. A court order dated June 29 mandated Chimombe and all occupants linked to him to vacate the premises at 5 Morton Jaffray Road, Eastlea, Harare within 10 days.

Established in 2008, Millytake Enterprises, co-owned by Chimombe and Rusero Mitchell, specializes in supplying commercial and industrial equipment. The company’s services encompass construction, property development, economic consulting, research, and consulting engineering.

Chimombe’s contentious relationship with Chivayo, who allegedly boasts close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has further complicated matters. Previously, Chimombe raised concerns over irregularities in tender processes, including a 2017 complaint against Zec regarding a US$10 million tender awarded to Sanitation Services, which Millytake Enterprises contested, citing significant cost disparities.

As Chimombe navigates these legal and financial challenges, his once-prominent business ventures appear increasingly fraught with controversy and legal entanglements.”
