Zimbabwe strengthens bilateral cooperation with Rwanda

Zimbabwe is slated to receive 1,000 metric tonnes of grain from Rwanda in response to a call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa following the impact of El-Nino-induced drought in the country. Rwanda, which has seen substantial socio-economic and political growth since the end of the 1994 genocide, marked its 30th anniversary of peace by announcing this donation. The gesture was warmly welcomed by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Frederick Shava.

“On Rwanda’s National Day, we celebrate the spirit of Ubuntu as Rwanda responds to President Mnangagwa’s international appeal. A consignment of 1,000 metric tonnes of maize is en route from Kigali to Zimbabwe. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of President Paul Kagame, the Government, and the people of Rwanda for this show of solidarity,” Ambassador Shava expressed.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency James Musoni, highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Harare and Kigali. “When President Mnangagwa made his plea, President Kagame promptly responded by dispatching 1,000 metric tons of maize to support Zimbabwe in overcoming its challenges. This underscores the close ties and shared solidarity between our nations,” Ambassador Musoni affirmed.

President Paul Kagame has guided Rwanda’s remarkable development over the past 30 years, during which Harare and Kigali have deepened cooperation through agreements spanning economics, diplomacy, and education.
