Ambitious Scottland FC names Mangombe as new head coach

Genesis Mangombe, the former coach of Harare giants Dynamos, has made a rapid career shift, joining Scottland FC, an ambitious Northern Region Division One side. Mangombe’s departure from Dynamos was announced late Monday, and by the following day, he had been unveiled as the new head coach of Scottland FC.

Mangombe’s move comes as a notable transition, with the youthful coach expressing optimism about his new role at Scottland FC. In his first comments after joining the Mabvuku-based club, Mangombe expressed confidence in his ability to excel at Scottland FC, stating, “With the right support we can achieve anything. I feel here I have everything to showcase what I am fully made of and I believe we will go far.”

At Scottland FC, Mangombe faces a significant challenge. The team is currently in fourth place in the Northern Region Division One, trailing the log leaders, MWORS FC, by four points. Mangombe has been tasked with the goal of securing promotion to the Premier Soccer League, a target that reflects both the club’s ambition and the high expectations placed upon him.

Mangombe’s tenure at Dynamos was marked by a mix of achievement and struggle. Last season, he led Dynamos to win the Chibuku Super Cup, the club’s first major trophy in nine years, a notable accomplishment in his coaching career. However, this season, Dynamos struggled, securing only six wins in 22 matches, which led to Mangombe’s departure.

In response to Mangombe’s exit, Dynamos has appointed veteran coach Lloyd Chigowe as interim coach. However, the club is also reportedly exploring options for a foreign coach, particularly with Dynamos set to participate in continental football next week.

The swift transition from Dynamos to Scottland FC highlights Mangombe’s resilience and determination to make a mark in Zimbabwean football. As he begins this new chapter with Scottland FC, all eyes will be on him to see if he can deliver on the promise and potential that led him to this new role.
