Fatal road accident in North West claims wto lives and injures eighteen

In a tragic accident on Saturday night, two individuals—a taxi driver and a passenger—lost their lives, and eighteen others were injured when a bakkie collided with a stray cow on the R378 Road near Ganyesa in North West. The collision occurred while the vehicle was en route to Morokweng.

According to the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, the accident involved a Toyota Hilux bakkie that struck a stray cow, which then led to a crash with a Toyota Quantum minibus. The impact caused the minibus to overturn, landing on its side.

Emergency services rushed the eighteen injured travelers to Ganyesa District Hospital, with five reported in critical condition. The rest sustained minor injuries.

Wessels Morweng, MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management in North West, has urged local communities to take greater care of their livestock. “My plea is for our community to make sure that their livestock are kept in their safe areas especially during the night as our villages are very dark at night and the visibility is very poor,” Morweng stated. He highlighted that accidents caused by animals on the road are on the rise and called for more vigilance.

Morweng extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. This incident follows a recent report that North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, was involved in a separate car accident near Derby while on official duty.
