Hillary Makaya addresses age controversy, socialite clears the air on social media

Hillary Makaya, the prominent Zimbabwean socialite, has taken to Instagram to address long-standing rumors and accusations regarding her age. For years, Makaya has faced skepticism from some quarters who believe she has been misleading the public about her age, claiming to be 23 years old annually.

During a recent Instagram question-and-answer session, Makaya confronted these allegations directly. When one follower inquired, “Are you 23 years old or….?” she used the opportunity to set the record straight.

In her response, Makaya encouraged her followers to review her past birthday posts on social media. She suggested that they perform the arithmetic themselves to determine the truth. “Go check out all my birthday posts from the year I joined Instagram till now, do the math and tell me what you think🥱,” she advised.

Despite her efforts to clarify the matter, skepticism persisted. Another follower questioned her with the phrase, “Zveshuwa shuwa une 23 years here?” (Are you 23 years old?).

In her reply, Makaya addressed the doubts with humor and sincerity. She stated that she has no incentive to lie about her age, emphasizing that she can gain nothing from such deception. “With the way I’ve always wanted to be older than I am in my type of social scenes, Ndinenge ndichimbo nyeperei ask😂😂I’ve no reason to. Social media ineyi chainondipa zvekuti ndinga swera ndichi nyepa makore?” (I would rather pretend to be older considering my social circles. Why would I lie about my age on social media?).

Makaya’s comments reflect a broader challenge faced by public figures in managing their narratives amid scrutiny and speculation. Her response highlights her commitment to transparency and her desire to move beyond the age-related controversies that have followed her for years.
