Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios, currently visiting Zimbabwe, has made a significant contribution to the Epworth community by handing over boreholes as part of her humanitarian efforts. This initiative carried out in collaboration with the local pageant, aligns with the Zimbabwean government’s objective of providing safe and clean water to all households.
In her address, Palacios highlighted the initial skepticism surrounding Zimbabwe but noted a positive shift in perception following her visit. “I know that before when we started the engagement, there were some concerns about Zimbabwe and the safety of their cream. However, I am sure their mindset has changed after spending a few hours here. They are extremely grateful for the opportunity to experience the beauty of this country,” she said.
Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, a Miss Universe Zimbabwe board member, emphasized the donation’s importance. “The choice of donating boreholes was a natural decision for us as we are supporting government efforts to ensure every household has access to clean water. It is our effort to make sure that people have clean water in their homes,” Chiwenga explained.
Palacios’s visit comes just days after her engagement in Kenya. The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has expressed its commitment to collaborating with her in promoting Zimbabwe as a prime tourist destination. Hazel Zisanhi, the acting Head of Corporate Affairs for ZTA, remarked, “Zimbabwe is a land of breathtaking natural wonders, from the majestic Victoria Falls to the diverse wildlife of our national parks. We hope that during your stay, you will experience the warm hospitality of our people and see firsthand the beauty and vibrant culture that makes our country so special. We are excited to work together to promote tourism, humanitarian causes, and the continued growth and prosperity of our beloved nation.”
In a heartwarming gesture, Palacios also inspired local youth by handing her sash to a six-year-old girl named Michell from Epworth. The 24-year-old beauty queen’s stay in Zimbabwe will continue for a few more days, with several events planned to further her humanitarian and promotional efforts.
