In a disturbing development, a villager from Nkayi in Matabeleland North province was found dead under gruesome circumstances, with only his torso discovered at the scene and his head missing. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the incident and is seeking public assistance.
According to Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the body of 55-year-old Sipho Mbulani was discovered on August 9, 2024, behind a bedroom hut at Nqakala Village. The victim’s head was absent, and his feet were reportedly bound with wire, raising concerns about the possibility of a ritualistic motive behind the murder.
“Police in Mbembesi, Nkayi are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a murder case in which Sipho Mbulani was found dead,” said Nyathi. The authorities have called on anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
In a separate but equally alarming case, police in Chegutu, Mashonaland West province, are investigating the murder of 23-year-old Kelvin Phiri. Phiri’s body was discovered in a disused mine shaft at Village 5, Stewartonia, Chingondo, on August 8, 2024.
The ZRP has issued an appeal for anyone with information that might lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects involved in both cases to report to their nearest police station. The community is urged to assist the police in these investigations to ensure justice for the victims and to help prevent further violence.
