Former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Chief Superintendent Francis Matsika tragically passed away on 19 August 2024 under sudden and mysterious circumstances at his lover’s home in Seke, Chitungwiza. Matsika, aged 57, reportedly collapsed and died while being intimate with his long-time partner, Blessing Zuva, at her Unit H residence.
According to a police memo obtained by this publication, Matsika arrived at Zuva’s home around 10:30 AM, carrying a plastic bag with 10 litres of cooking oil and a pint of milk. The two had been in a relationship since 2015 and engaged in intimacy twice before Matsika suddenly began gasping for air and collapsed.
The memo reveals that Matsika had instructed Zuva to mix the pint of milk with salt before their encounter. He claimed the concoction was a remedy for his erectile dysfunction. Zuva reported that Matsika consumed the mixture before their intimate moment. This unusual mixture has led to speculation that it might have contributed to his sudden demise.
Zuva, aged 45, attempted to seek help from a friend, Evelyne, but by the time they returned, Matsika had already died. The police arrived at the scene to find Matsika lying naked on the bed, covered with a brown blanket. No visible injuries were noted on his body, but the pot containing milk residue was taken as evidence.
“I was shocked when he started gasping for air,” Zuva told the investigators, according to the police report. The incident attracted a large crowd of onlookers, adding to the tense atmosphere in the usually quiet neighborhood.
Authorities from CID Homicide Harare, CID Studios, and CID Scenes of Crime attended the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with the post-mortem examination expected to provide clarity on the cause of Matsika’s death. The police memo notes that the house lacked CCTV cameras and a durawall, which could complicate the investigation. As Chitungwiza residents await the results of the post-mortem, speculation and shock continue to reverberate through the community. The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in understanding the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the former ZRP officer.
