On Thursday, the Chakari community in Mashonaland West province witnessed significant progress in educational and community development with the commissioning of new facilities at Eastlea Primary School. The event marked the addition of two new classroom blocks, an ablution facility, and a borehole, a development warmly received by residents.
Before these upgrades, students at Eastlea Primary School were learning in makeshift structures, which exposed them to various environmental hazards. The new classrooms and facilities are seen as crucial in improving the learning environment and providing a more stable and conducive space for education.
One community member expressed gratitude for the improvements, noting, “Our children were learning in old structures before this intervention. This means our children can now get quality education, helping bridge the learning gap between urban and rural learners.” Another resident highlighted the benefits of the new ablution facility, saying, “We want to thank the government for allowing private partnerships to respond to our priority needs. The ablution facility means a reduction in diseases.”
The implementation of these upgrades was made possible through a collaboration between the government and private sector partners. Professor Kudakwashe Taruberekera, founder of Craft Properties Holdings, emphasized the importance of such partnerships in achieving national development goals. He quoted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s principle, “Nyika Inovakwa neVene Vayo” (A country is built by its people), highlighting the role of private sector involvement in national development.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, underscored the significance of public-private partnerships in advancing national development objectives. He praised the event as a model of collaborative effort that aligns with the Vision 2030 goals for a prosperous Zimbabwe. Minister Moyo stressed the importance of private sector contributions in enhancing key sectors such as education and emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering these partnerships to drive progress.
In addition to the educational upgrades, the event also saw the distribution of wheelchairs to people with disabilities, reflecting a broader commitment to inclusive development and support for all community members. The improvements at Eastlea Primary School represent a significant step forward in the Chakari community’s journey towards enhanced educational infrastructure and overall development.

An investigation into illicit gold mining has revealed significant details about one of the accused, Leon Magwaca, whose real identity is James Sigauke. According to the investigation, Magwaca obtained a fraudulent identity document 12 years after arriving in South Africa.
