Lawyer reveals lies of Grace Mugabe’s cousin

In a high-profile case involving perjury, extortion, and forgery, prominent Harare lawyer Stanislaus Munyaradzi Bwanya has exposed significant inconsistencies in the testimony of former Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) commissioner Farai Mashonganyika. The case has drawn considerable attention due to Mashonganyika’s connection as a cousin of former First Lady Grace Mugabe.

Mashonganyika has accused Bwanya of pressuring her to relinquish a 2,000m² plot of land to avoid legal action, alleging that she paid US$10,000 in development fees and US$4,000 for the land’s value to secure a title deed. However, during cross-examination, Bwanya effectively challenged her claims.

Bwanya presented documents that demonstrated the Ministry of Local Government’s involvement in the cancellation of Mashonganyika’s title deeds, which she claimed to have been unaware of. Additionally, he introduced letters from former ministers and public notices that detailed the cancellation of title deeds for non-payment of land value, including those related to Mashonganyika’s property.

One of the more critical revelations was Bwanya’s proof that an affidavit Mashonganyika referred to as evidence of forgery was deposed by another individual, Calvin Mpofu. This detail further undermined Mashonganyika’s accusations against Bwanya, who has consistently denied the charges.

Bwanya asserts that the allegations against him are an attempt by Mashonganyika to avoid the repercussions of her unlawful occupation of state land. He presented evidence supporting his role as a registered conveyancer and refuted claims of forgery and extortion. The trial has been postponed until September 16, allowing for continued examination of the evidence and testimony. The case remains under intense scrutiny as both parties prepare for the next phase of proceedings.
